Born and raised in Michigan, he earned a degree in education and
got a job as a television news reporter, working in Kalamazoo, Mich.
and other cities including Memphis, Tenn. It was there that he decided to
get into higher education. He took a adjunct position at the University of
Mississippi, teaching broadcast journalism. Later he worked at other
universities, including Jackson State where he served as chair of the Mass
Communications Department for seven years.

Welch has been married to my wife, Wendy, for 35 years. They are the proud
parents of three adult children and  have five grandchildren. He loves music, sports and also have a passion for broadcast journalism. Because he has a
calling on his life to teach, Welch is proud to serve as the Director of
Education at New Horizon Church International.
